Read this Before Buying a Used Car!
Unfortunately there are many unscrupulous and naive sellers of used cars out there. Buyers need to be aware of what to look for when purchasing a used car.
Unless the car is still under Factory Manufacturer Warranty there are several thing you should be looking for.
A Completed "Used Car Safety Inspection" or a Completed "Out of Province Inspection". These are the bare minimum that should be done before you commit to purchasing the vehicle. It is pretty hard to negotiate a fair price for both parties when there could be thousands of dollars of safety requirements that need to be meet prior to being allowed to drive the vehicle on the road.
A recent inspection by a mechanic for all the other things that are not covered under a "Safety or Out of Province Inspection". Just because a vehicle is now safe does not make it a good vehicle to purchase. Many mechanical items that may need to be repaired or replaced have nothing to do with passing a "Safety Inspection".
History Report In Japan the Government tracks and records changes in Odometer tampering which protects the Consumer. In Canada and the United Stated this is not a standard practice. Get the vehicle VIN number and contact a local Manufacturer Dealer of that car to have them run the VIN through their computer system.
Get a vehicle history report from your local Registry. Do not accept a Registry Vehicle Report from the Buyer! It could be a forged document. Do not be fooled by a crook. I am aware of this happening and it may be a more common occurrence than you think. |
