History

The Porsche 944 was first introduced in 1982 as a replacement for the 924 even though both cars were sold for a number of years. Its last year of production was in 1991 to be replaced by the 968.

It was a big success for Porsche earning many automotive awards over the years. Its models consisted of 944, 944S, 944 Turbo and 944S2.

The first 2.5L engine was based upon half of a 5.0L 928.

944S2

Sold between 1989 and 1991 it had the world's largest 4 cylinder engine at 3.0L. The S2 was the first time a cabriolet was available in a 944. 1990 was the lowest production year for the coupe model.

The Porsche 944S2 was often accredited with being the "Best Handling Car in the World". It corners like it is on rails.
